Winnona Rae Love

November 1, 1939 — July 31, 2019

   Winnona Rae (Barnes) Love, age 79 of Lexington NE passed away July 31, 2019, at Lexington Regional Medical Center, Lexington, NE with family by her side.

   Winnona (Nona) was born November 1, 1939 to Lyle and Mary Patterson Barnes in Broken Bow, NE

The family made their home in Dunning, NE where she grew up with 2 sisters and 3 brothers, Nona graduated from Dunning High School in 1958.

   In 1959, Nona married George Love from Mason City NE, they divorced in 1970

   June of 1971 Nona adopted her daughter Angela, they made their home in Anselmo, NE Where they shared a great love for animals, In August of 1983, Nona graduated from the North American School of Animal Sciences as a Vet Tech and worked at BD for many years and was also a bartender and cook at the Starlight Lounge in Broken Bow.

   Nona had many horses over the years but two horses that were very special to her, Buck and Doc, she loved to ride and spent many hours doing just that, Doc and her competed in local rodeos ,parades and helped some of the locals work cattle on occasion.

Later Nona moved to Broken Bow to care for her Mom Mary and a few years later they both moved to Callaway, NE where Nona gained a second daughter, Liz. After Liz graduated from high school, Nona and Mary moved to Dunning, NE to be closer to family, Nona spent every available moment with her grandchildren Chelsa and Eric. She loved being able to attend everything they were a part of and took great pride in the fact that they both graduated from the same high school as she did.

   Nona loved to cook for her family and friends. Often you would find her in her kitchen covered in flour making homemade noodles and every surface available covered in noodles to dry so she could make a huge pot of chicken and noodles.  All leftovers were stored in butter bowls in the refrigerator, so it was always a game to figure out where the butter actually was.  She could feed an army with just 1 pound of hamburger; it was normally turned into her famous meatloaf burgers and everyone loved them.

Nona treasured her Great Grandsons Conner, Gavin and Reed they were always such a great joy for her. She would spend hours just cuddling, visiting and spoiling with them, she loved attending their birthdays and the holidays to see their excitement.

   Nona was preceded in death by her Father Lyle, Mother Mary, Sister Marion Copper, and Brother-in-Law Bill Copper, Brother Everett Barnes, Brother-in-law Donald Rice, Nephew Kermit Copper, Niece Lanona Kruger, Great Niece Darla Kruger and Best Friend Alfred Copper

   Nona is Survived by her Daughter Angela and Husband Jeff Werner of Cozad, NE, Daughter Liz and Husband Dustin Josjor of Holdrege, NE, Granddaughter Chelsa and Husband Ryan Grantzinger of  Merna, NE, 3 Great Grandsons Conner, Gavin and Reed Grantzinger, Grandson Eric and Wife Brittany Payne of Dunning, NE, Grandson Tysen Werner , Grandson Eli Werner  and Granddaughter Triteny Werner  all of Cozad, NE, Brother Maynard and wife Linda Barnes of Broken Bow, NE, Sister Lauretta Rice of Dunning, NE, Brother Lyle and Jan Barnes of Broken Bow, Sister in law Patti Barnes of Broken Bow , several  nieces and nephews  and many more Nona always thought very fondly  of as her ‘Kids”

     Memorial services for Winnona “Nona” Love will be held Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Kathy Salts PMA officiating. A register book may be signed at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Online condolences can be left at www.govierbrothers.com. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
