William Vernon “Bill” “Vern” Goble, 69, of Hastings, Nebraska, passed away on December 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with ALS. A devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend, Bill will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and deep appreciation for life and the people around him.

Bill was born on June 16, 1956, in Sargent, Nebraska, the beloved son of William Howard and Norma Lee (Harvey) Goble. Growing up in Sargent, his natural athleticism and enthusiasm led him to letter in football, basketball, track, baseball, golf, bowling, chess, cribbage, pool, and darts (please don’t fact check us on this one). He graduated from Sargent High School in 1974 and went on to earn a degree in HVAC-R from Southeast Community College, beginning what would become a dedicated 44-year career in the field. 

On August 9, 1975, Bill married his high school sweetheart, Deanna Kay (Seevers) Goble. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and learning. Bill took immense pride in his sons, William (Bill) Eugene Goble and Brandon James Goble, cherishing every moment spent with them and their families, including Bill’s wife, Jonna, daughters Lauren and Brynn, and Brandon’s son, Gavin. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Howard Goble and Norma Lee (Harvey) Goble; and his grandparents, Vernon and Wuanita (Stine) Goble and William and Lois (Alder) Harvey. He is survived by his sisters, Jenae Perrin and Jenine Christensen; and his nephew, Danny Dowse, and Danny’s wife, Robin, who shared a lifelong bond with Bill and was more like a brother to him—always offering friendship, loyalty, and support. 

A true people-person, Bill loved making new friends and learning from everyone he met. He enjoyed playing golf, pool, darts, hunting, and watching any sport—especially Husker football. He was active in local golf and pool leagues, where his competitive spirit and easygoing nature made him a favorite among teammates. 

Bill often shared his philosophy: “I don’t claim to know everything, but I’m willing to learn.” That humility and curiosity guided his life and relationships.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Sargent, NE. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. A visitation will take place on Tuesday the 23rd from 9:00 AM to service time at the Sargent United Methodist Church. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
