Velma L. Stewart Powers age 95, of Broken Bow, NE died early Monday morning, November 19, 2018, at Brookestone View in Broken Bow, NE.

Velma Wagner (Stewart) Powers was born September 5, 1923, on a farm near Arcadia, NE to Charles and Minnie (Desel) Wagner. Velma graduated from Comstock High School in 1941. In 1942, Velma and Max Stewart were married, and they lived west of Sargent, NE on the farm that Max had grown upon. They purchased this farm from his parents. They lived there and ran a dairy and farmed together for many years. Two daughters were born to this union. Max passed away in August of 1984.

In August of 1987, Velma and Franklin Powers were married and lived in Grand Island, NE then moved back to Sargent to the Stewart farm, where they traveled and enjoyed many trips together. They lived on the farm until they retired to Off Broadway Apartments in February of 2010. Franklin Powers passed away in June of 2017.

Velma enjoyed gardening, cooking, quilting, and her Grandchildren.

Velma is survived by daughters Loretta (Walt) Griffith of Broken Bow, NE, Meredith (William) Orthman of Lexington, NE, grandchildren Ken (Janet) Griffith of Broken Bow, NE, Mark (Sonja) Griffith of Kearney, NE, Tom (Heather) Griffith of Merna, NE, Tricia (Jeff) Sabin of Eagle, NE, eleven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, four step-children Nick (Kathy) Powers of Kearney, NE, Rick (Betty) Powers of Omaha, NE, Victor Powers of Oklahoma, Dixon (Lynette) Powers of North Platte, NE,  numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Velma is preceded in death by her husbands Max Stewart, Franklin Powers, one grandson, one sister, and her parents.

Funeral services for Velma will be Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE. Burial will be at 9:00 AM before funeral services at the Mt Hope Cemetery in Sargent, NE. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with family greeting 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow, NE. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.govierbrothers.com.
