Growing up LaVerne was quite the Tom Boy per Vera. She can tell some stories.  They moved several places in her childhood from Kansas to Nebraska.

She was from a large family. Siblings were May, Delores, Virginia, Geraldine, Vera, William, Ed, Gary, Galen, Clifton, Myron and Richard. The family moved to Callaway around 1944. She graduated from a highschool in San Rafael, Ca. Then went on to nursing school. Graduated in 1955 from the University in Omaha. One day when she headed home from a nursing job in Valentine, she had car trouble. Vera asked Ernie (her prince charming) to come to rescue. That may have been the beginning of their courtship. They were married in 1956. They lived in Callaway where the family was raised. Over her many years she not only enjoyed family so much, her nursing career, volunteering but had some very

creative hobbies.  She loved to paint form early years.  Many of her painting hang in our homes and have been bought and enjoyed by strangers. She loved to sew and do ceramics. Her garden was another passion.  Her and Ernie both enjoyed the yard. Not to mention helping with the many critters they both enjoyed. She welcomed everyone in her home. No one was a stranger.

LaVerne had a very strong faith. She was loved by many.

Shirley LaVerne Dodge is survived by three sons Ernest (Brigette) Dodge of Lincoln, NE., Steve (Deb) Dodge of Omaha, NE., Fred Dodge of Annapolis, Maryland, and a daughter Teresa McGee of Kearney, NE., eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great greatgrandchildren.  A brother Myron Mason of Anselmo, NE., and a sister Vera Russell of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
