Shari (Casteel) McCallum of Carrollton, Texas.

Shari (Casteel) McCallum was born in Loup City, Nebraska on April 10, 1956, to Ralph and Norma (Kaelin) Casteel of Westerville Nebraska. She attended grade school at Westerville until 5th grade. At age 7 she accepted Christ as her Savior at during a Bible school time at one of the little churches in Westerville. In January of 1967 her parents entered the first phase of missionary training school in Fredonia, Wisconsin. In January of 1968, her family moved to Camdenton, Missouri where her parents entered the second phase of missionary training. They would spend the next two years there. Her dad was planning to be a Missionary Bush Pilot, so in 1970 they moved to Sidney, Nebraska where her dad would attend A&P Mechanic School at Western Nebraska Technical College. She began her high school years in Sidney and then in 1972 moved to Grant, Nebraska where her dad entered missionary flight training. She graduated from high school in Grant in 1974. After graduation she entered trade school to become an Optician Assistant. Upon completion of this she entered the University of Nebraska Kearney, graduating with a master’s degree in Speech Pathology in 1986. Shari was a long-time member of the American Speech-Language Association (ASHA). She was licensed in Illinois and Texas.

Shari and Jackie McCallum were married on September 16th, 1989, at the Evangelical Free Church in Kearney, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Schaumburg, Illinois. Shari worked in the Schaumburg school district working with young students. After a year she started working for company serving nursing homes helping patients to rehabilitate with speech and language in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. She eventually went to work at Manor Care which provided rehab mainly for stroke and injury patients. She received several excellence awards while working there.

In 1998, Shari and Jackie moved to Carrollton, Texas. There she worked at the Carrollton Hospital, RHD and Medical City in Denton County. She enjoyed working and helping her patients with speech and swallowing. Shari adopted two little Shih Tzu puppies (Max and Sam) in 2005. They kept her busy and entertained.

Shari passed away early morning on April 23rd at Avalon Memory Care in Carrollton, Texas. The care givers said she was passionate and caring with the other patients.

Shari is survived by her husband Jackie McCallum, brother Ed Casteel and spouse Jeanne, nephew Geoff Casteel and spouse Tina. Two aunts, and numerous cousins.

Shari was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Norma Casteel.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 5, 2026, at 1:30 PM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE. Burial will follow in the Westerville Cemetery at Westerville, NE. A visitation and time to greet the family will be held on Tuesday May 5th from 11:30 AM to service time at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
