Richard Hansen

June 10, 1933 — February 21, 2018

Richard C. “Dick” Hansen, age 84 of Sargent, Nebraska died Wednesday February 21, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held Monday February 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of Christ in Sargent, Nebraska with Pastor Marty Robbins and Jason Swick officiating.  Burial will be in the West Union Cemetery west of Sargent, Ne. with military honors. Visitation will be Sunday Feb. 25, 2018 2p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Sargent. The family requests any memorials be made to the Sargent Veterans Memorial, Sargent Church of Christ or Sargent Volunteer Fire Department in Dick’s honor. Govier Brothers Mortuary is assisting the family will arrangements.

Richard “Dick” Chriss Hansen, 84, of Sargent, was surrounded by family when he peacefully went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2018.  Dick was born on June 10, 1933, in Ansley, Nebraska to Christian and Ruth (Stevens) Hansen.  He graduated from Sargent High School in 1951.  He continued his education at the University of Nebraska before moving to Basin, Wyoming, where he worked in construction and met the love of his life, Carmen Pauline Johnston, whom he married on April 10, 1954, in Billings, Montana.  Dick was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1954, where he served as a radar technician for the Battery A 737th AAA Missile.  He was stationed at the Fort Tilden Army Base in New York and served during the Korean War before being honorably discharged in 1956.  Dick and Pauline returned to Basin, Wyoming for a short time before moving to Sargent, Nebraska to purchase the family farm and ranch operation and expand their family.   

Dick was not only a handsome man, but as a baby he received honorable mention in a National Sears Baby Contest.  As a child he enjoyed making vintage model airplanes out of Esaki Japanese Tissue material.  He enjoyed bowling, hunting, square dancing, with his all-time favorite fishing and spending time with his family.  Dick enjoyed being involved in his community and making a difference.  He set on numerous boards and committees throughout his life to name a few; Sargent High School Board, Agriculture Board of Directors, Church of Christ board and United Methodist Church board. In addition, he was a member of both the Legion Club and Elks Club.  Dick was active in the church and took pride in helping with sunday school classes at the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pauline Hansen,  five children, Debbrah Swick (Chuck) of Worland, Wyoming; Kathryn Fenske (Dean) of Sargent; Nebraska, Ron Hansen (Deb) of Sargent, Nebraska; Carmalee Rose (Mauri) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Paul Hansen (Sheridan) of Austin, Texas; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn Greenstreet of Uma, Arizona; Evelyn Nordbrock (Neil) of Tuscon, Arizona, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Elizabeth (Stevens) Hansen and Christian Hansen and brother-in-law, Kermit Greenstreet.
