Phyllis Bailey

March 16, 1930 — January 21, 2021

Phyllis D. Bailey age 90 of North Platte, NE, formerly of Halsey, NE passed away on January 21, 2021.

Phyllis was born March 16, 1930 to Floyd and Louise (Schneller) Cross in Ansley, NE. Her formative years were spent in the sandhills of Nebraska attending high school in Halsey. She married Alva K Bailey on January 31, 1948. They spent 68 wonderful years together.

Phyllis loved to do the crossword in the newspaper, put together puzzles, and talk about the many friends she’d made living and working in the Sandhills of Nebraska. Although she worked in and around Kearney for several years, she especially enjoyed the friends she’d made working for the Purdum State Bank and Circle 4 Fertilizer. Phyllis enjoyed embroidering, making dishtowels, and giving them away to friends and family. Many members of the Halsey community enjoyed the special sauce her and Al used to make, by the gallon. Phyllis was known as a really good cook, she loved to prepare large meals for not only her family but anyone that just chose to show up. Many a wayward teenager sat at her table and enjoyed Mrs. Bailey’s hospitality, she will be remembered and missed by many.

Phyllis is survived by sons, Robert (Delores) Bailey of Superior, AZ, Roy (Kathy) Bailey of Roscoe, NE, daughter Wanda (Gary) Russell of Broken Bow, NE, Sisters-in-law Kathrine Cross and Loreen Sinsel, 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alva, one son Dwaine. Phyllis was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 6 siblings.
