Mary Alyce Vose, 91, formerly of Arcadia, passed away Monday, April 13, at St. John's in Kearney, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Christian Church in Ansley, with Rev. Mel Shepard officiating. Burial will follow at Westerville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ansley Christian Church. A lunch reception will be held at the Ansley Community Building following the burial. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19th from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, with family greeting 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Mary Alyce was born October 22, 1934, in Arcadia, Nebraska, to Melvin and Ann Marie (Nyberg) Moore. She grew up near Westerville and attended a country grade school. She later attended Ansley High School through the 11th grade and graduated from Corvallis High School in Oregon in 1952.
On February 26, 1953, she married Theodore "Ted" Wayne Vose at the Methodist Church in Westerville, Nebraska. Following their wedding, the couple returned to California while Ted completed his service in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge in 1955, they returned to Nebraska, where they ranched in the Sandhills until 1961. They then moved east of Westerville to take over the family farm.
In January 1969, the family moved to Lincoln so Ted could attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During this time, Mary worked a variety of jobs to help support her family, including babysitting, ironing, working in a school kitchen, and serving as a nursing assistant. In May 1973, they returned to Westerville, where she continued working as a nursing assistant until her retirement.
Mary found joy in simple pleasures-tending to her flower garden, mowing the lawn, and caring for her animals. In May 2013, she moved to Prairie View
Gardens Assisted Living in Kearney. After suffering a stroke in March 2018, she became a resident of St. John's Nursing Home, where she remained until her passing.
Mary was a quiet, gentle, and deeply loving person. She cherished time outdoors and was known as a wonderful cook, especially remembered for spoiling her grandchildren with their favorite meals. She offered a kind word, a warm smile, and a tender hug that could make everything better. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children: Mickie (Vic) Florea of Stapleton; Sandra (Howard) Dondlinger of Kearney; and Sid (Cyndi) Vose of Arcadia; and sons-in-law Ron Ruzicka and Dean Slingsby. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Angela (Kenny) Kramer; Dale (Kami) Florea; Cassie (Matt) Gay; Michael Dondlinger; Amanda (Casey) Gehrt; Jennifer (Aaron) Harris; Riley (Kelsey) Ruzicka; Jessie (Chris) Watts; Ashley (Josh) Vaughn; Darcey (Selvin) Mendez; Taylor Slingsby; Natosha (Andy) Siemek; Tylor (Jaime) Vose; and Seth (Kassie) Vose. Her legacy continues through her many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as her sisters Marlyn Arthur and Marge Kitsmiller, and sister-in-law Shirley Moore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; daughters Patti Ruzicka and Mary Jo Slingsby; grandson Travis Slingsby; brothers Jim Moore and Richard Moore; sister-in-law Joyce Moore; and brothers-in-law Mick Kitsmiller and Francis Arthur.
