Marlene Joyce (Saner) Milleson was born on January 8, 1935, at her grandparents’ home in Halsey, Nebraska. She attended grade school at West Union country school and high school in Dunning. She graduated from Denver Business College earning a secretarial degree. She remained in Denver following graduation and worked for North American Van Lines answering phones and taking dictation.
Marlene returned home to the Sandhills in 1954. She married her long-time boyfriend, Benjamin “Junior” Milleson in June of 1955.
Marlene and Junior welcomed four children, Lishia, Byron, Vonda, and Ryan. Byron passed away at the age of 6 following a tragic accident. Losing Byron has weighed heavily on Marlene’s heart all these years. There is a joyous reunion in heaven now.
Marlene held several jobs over the years, served on the school board, and was active in many clubs. However, caring for her family was her pride and joy. Church was also a priority in her life. Before she moved to Off Broadway, she and her grandson Ty would often be found together in her pew.
She greatly enjoyed playing cards, dominos, bingo, completing puzzles, playing the piano, and listening to music. She loved traveling with Junior later in life. Wintering in Yuma was one of their favorite past times. Their trip to Alaska was also one she always talked about.
Marlene was a kind soul who was loved by many. She always encouraged her family to find the good in all people. She will be greatly missed.
