Margaret Alice Johnson Seevers (Markie) was born in Casper, Wyoming, Sept. 6, 1922, the only child of R. Clair and Erma B (Huffaker) Johnson. When she was about 6 years old her parents returned to Nebraska and made their home with her paternal Grandmother, Mary Johnson, who was the postmistress at Westerville, Nebraska. They later moved to Broken Bow where Markie attended school, graduating with the class of 1940.

Markie worked at the Custer County Ration office during WW2. She and her future mother-in-law sometimes took treats to the North Platte Canteen for the soldiers coming through on the troop trains. She did this in support of her finance, Eugene Seevers, who was stationed in the South Pacific and never got leave to come home and get married, as was their plan, until the war had ended.

Markie & Gene were married on Dec. 18, 1945, during a terrible snowstorm. Not many people were able to make the ceremony, but they had waited for so long for this special day that they decided not to postpone the ceremony and just got married anyway! They were the first couple to be married in the Cliff Union Church on the table west of Merna. After their marriage they farmed in the Merna area, later moving to Custer Center and in 1953 they purchased a plumbing & well drilling business from Port Worth and moved to Merna to raise their 4 girls. Markie worked at Becton Dickinson for several years until she & Gene purchased a hardware store in Sargent in 1970. They worked together at Seevers Hardware until their retirement.

Markie was a patient woman who loved her family, animals (especially dogs), coca-cola, and chocolate. Her grandchildren were the delight of her life. They loved being at her house and still brag about her famous toast, popcorn balls, banana bread, & wiener gravy. The only rule at Grandma's house was to just have fun.

Gene passed away in 1990. Markie continued to live in Sargent and was able to be in her own home with the help of her daughter, Beverly. In 2016 she moved to Broken Bow and resided at Off Broadway before making her home at Brookstone View for the last 2 ½ years. She loved her time at Brookstone & her family is forever grateful for their love & exceptional care!

She leaves behind to celebrate her memory four daughters. Margene & husband, Butch Smith, Beverly Huhman, Arlene Seevers, Deanna & husband, Bill Goble, 8 grandchildren & their spouses, Joelle Huhman, Mike Huhman, Teresa Seibert, Chris Smith, Bill Goble, Kelly Miller, Brandon Goble, and Scott Rippen. 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, great and great- great-grandchildren and a host of neighborhood kids & friends of her girls who she considered family.

She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Clair & Erma Johnson, her husband, Gene Seevers, her in-laws, Xa (Bill) & Ruth Seevers, brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Carol & Barbara Seevers, Sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Elaine & Karl Miller. Many aunts, uncles, cousins & a special friend that she considered a sister, Olive Seevers Christensen.
