Loren Dee Peterson, age 74, of Arnold passed away peacefully, December 8th at Bryan West in Lincoln with his family by his side.
He was born April 7, 1947, to Floyd and Lucy (Rimpley) Peterson at the Arnold Hospital. He was the twelfth born of thirteen children. He grew up on the homestead at Elim Valley. He attended Tallin Table school through the 8th grade & then attended Arnold high school, graduating with the class of 1965. He was then drafted into the United States Army that same year. He was a proud veteran serving a tour in Vietnam.
After returning home from Vietnam, he worked for local farmers in the Callaway area. He met Cheryll Helmuth and they eloped to Sterling, CO & married in April of 1969. To this union were born two sons, James Michael in 1970 & Cory Lee in 1977.
They bought their first 80 acres in 1973, east of Arnold. They had milk cows & hogs. In 1976 they bought their second farm, also east of Arnold. In 1982 they purchased Powell Canyon Ranch where he lived until his passing.
Loren Dee never met a stranger. He loved to visit. He could & would visit with anyone, pretty much anywhere. He loved attending auctions and buying just about any animal you could think of. He always had great plans for his various purchases. He also loved horse auctions, especially draft horses, & buying various tack & harnesses, horse buggies & various horse-drawn equipment. You never knew what he might bring home, but you knew it would be “something.”
Loren will be dearly missed by his family. Survivors include sons James Peterson of Central City, and Cory (Mindy) Peterson of Arnold, grandsons: Josh Peterson of Ft. Collins, CO, Brandon Peterson of Lincoln, Logan Peterson of Arnold, and Devin Peterson of Arnold, one great granddaughter Grace Peterson, siblings: Nona Leibhart of North Platte, Betty (Norman) Schuster of Phillips, Kenny (Marge) Peterson of Bertrand, Jane Wilkins of Omaha, Jay (Jeanie) Peterson of Callaway, Kay (Niels) Nielson of North Platte, and Sheila (Denny) Malcom of Callaway.
