Lois Schmid

A Funeral Mass for Becky Schmid age 52, and Lois Schmid age 91, will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Jim Hunt celebrant in Broken Bow, NE. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Govier Brothers Mortuary to help purchase Headstone. A Vigil Service will be held on Wednesday, January 14th at 9:45 AM at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church led by the Catholic Daughters. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Lois Eileen (Powers) Schmid was born on August 20, 1932, at Milburn, NE, to James and Ellen (Coan) Powers. Lois’s early life was spent north of Milburn. She started school at the Wild Rose School, which was located between Milburn and Brewster. The family moved to Merna in March or 1944. Lois graduated from Merna High School in 1950. After graduation she worked at bakeries in Grant and Ogallala, NE until 1954. Then she was a salesclerk at Ben Franklins in Broken Bow until 1968.

In September of 1971, she was united in marriage to Leo Schmid at Harlan, Iowa. The couple lived in North Platte until July of 1979; they then moved to Broken Bow. To this union one daughter was born Becky. While in North Platte she worked at O’Connor’s and Grants Variety Store. Leo worked as a watch repair at Hoovers and Tallman’s Jewelry; after moving to Broken Bow they opened their own Jewelry store, Schmid’s Jewelry.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Leo, and parents James and Ellen.

Lois is survived by daughter Becky Schmid of Omaha.
