Broken Bow

Broken Bow, NE – Leona Duryea age 85 of Broken Bow formerly of Mason City, NE passed away on June 29, 2024, at the Brookestone View Care Home in Broken Bow. 

Leona Luise Bradford Duryea, was born February 12, 1939, in McNary, AZ to Andy and Pearl “Richardson” Bradford and was raised in California.

On August 15th, 1958, she married LaVern Albert Duryea in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she worked as a Civil Service contract employee and LaVern was stationed in the Army.

They returned to Nebraska and raised a daughter and 2 sons, owning a small engine mower and welding shop on Green Street, Mason City, and raising gardens and small livestock completed activities on their acreage.

Leona and LaVern also drove the school bus and were members of the Mason City Fire & Rescue squads.

She was a lifelong member of the Ansley Methodist Church.

Leona finished her career as a CNA in Broken Bow for over 30 years in long-term care. Most recently, she has received wonderful care from former co-workers at Brookestone View where great staff provide Angel’s work!

 She was preceded in death by her parents, husband LaVern; and her two brothers, Wiely and Fred, daughter-in-law Betty Duryea, and numerous in-laws.

 She is survived by children, Cynthia (Bryan)Trimble, Matthew (Paula)Duryea, and Andy (Angela)Duryea; 5 grandkids; Katrina, Brooke, Erica, Evah, and Andy Jr.; and lots of great-grandkids.

 A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow with Dean Millsap officiating. The inurnment will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. A visitation and time to greet the family will be held Wednesday at 9:00 AM at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Her family asks that memorials be designated to the Ansley Methodist Steeple Restoration Fund.
