Kendri Skye Selko, age 12, passed away at home on February 11th at 8:48 AM. Kendri was surrounded by family as she peacefully went to her eternal home in heaven after a courageous two-year battle with osteosarcoma. Though her time here was far too short, the beauty, joy, and her red-headed fierceness she brought into the world will remain forever. Kendri was a true warrior and our forever hero. Not every hero stays till the end, but her memory always will.

Kendri was born on November 5, 2013, in Kearney, Nebraska, to her loving parents, Jeff and Hannah Selko, and her proud big sister Eberlie. Kendi was a creative soul with a quiet strength that inspired everyone who knew her. She expressed herself through painting, diamond art, and building Legos. Music was extremely important to Kendri. She played the piano and clarinet and had a beautiful singing voice that brought warmth and peace to those lucky enough to hear it. Kendri was a rocker girl at heart. Skillet was her favorite band, and she had chosen "Lions" as her cancer-fight anthem. A special highlight of her journey was meeting Skillet last August and having the band dedicate two songs to her.

Kendri greatly enjoyed stargazing through her telescope at the observatory on her family farm. She found wonder in the universe above and curiosity in the details around her, always exploring, always dreaming. She also loved making mud pies in the “cottage” and riding 4-wheelers with her sister and cousins.

Kendri loved to go fishing, swimming, digging up coquina shells, and having “margaritas” on the beach. She enjoyed watching scary movies, playing soccer and volleyball, and spending time with her friends. She also immersed herself in video games, which allowed her to stay connected with her sister Ebbie, cousins, and friends during her cancer journey.

Throughout her illness, Kendri showed us all her warrior spirit, remarkable bravery, and grace. She endured more than any child ever should, yet she remained kind, creative, and full of life. Her strength left a lasting impression on all who walked beside her during her journey. Kendri had accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and later chose to be baptized at one of her favorite places, Anna Maria Island.

Kendri’s life, though brief, was filled with love that cannot be measured and memories that will continue to shine, much like the stars. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, bright ocean eyes, creativity, and the radiant light she shared so freely with the world. Kendri will forever be loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.

She is survived by her parents and sister Eberlie Selko. Her grandparents: Papa JD and Sheri “YaYa” Rickertsen. Grandpa Dale Selko, Grandma Tami Thompson. Great grandmothers: Bonnie “Bunny” Metcalf, Marlys Rhoad, Bev Frerichs, and Loretta Selko.

Uncles: Jason (Valarie) Selko and Dusty (Brandi) Hinrichs. Aunts: Kristina (Jeremy) Finnerty, Prairie “Cookie” (Nate) Miles, Carly (Brian) Blakely, Heidi (Kurtis) Abbott.
