Kenneth (Ken) Macke, age 80, of Mullen, NE, passed away December 5, 2021, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE, due to complications from Covid pneumonia and heart failure. On April 23, 1958, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served his country until April 24, 1964, when he was honorably discharged. On October 30, 1961, Ken married his sweetheart and the love of his life, Shirley Erick. Throughout their married life, the couple made their home in Mullen, California, Utah, and Alaska, and eventually returned to Mullen in 2000 when Ken retired. Ken enjoyed carpentry work, watching old western movies, and playing with his “baby girls” Tinker and Belle. Those pups made him so happy, and there wasn't a day that they didn't make him laugh. Ken is survived by wife Shirley of Mullen, sons Chris (Shauna) Macke of Virginia Beach, VA, and Tim (Jennifer) Macke of Mullen; daughters Teresa (Steven) Crowley of Vienna, VA, and Deana Perkins of Bellevue, NE, as well as 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sisters Joan Rogers of Kearney, and Marg (Gary) Little of Kearney, and brother Dick (Jo) Macke of Mullen, and many other family members and friends. Ken was welcomed into heaven by his Mom and Dad Pauline and Edgar, son Kenneth, sister Teresa Fitzgerald, brother-in-law Bob Rogers, granddaughter Stephanie Macke, and son-in-law Chuck Perkins. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, from 1:00 to 6:00 pm MT at the Mullen Funeral Home, with a rosary being held at 7:00 pm MT at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Private family services will be held at a later date, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mullen, NE, with Father Matthew Nash officiating.
