Karl Reinhard age 89.Karl Lee Reinhard, born on January 6, 1937, in Callaway, Nebraska, to John and Maxine Reinhard; passed away on February 12, 2026, in the same beloved town. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who left behind a legacy of hard work, passion for nature, and a commitment to family.
Karl graduated from Callaway High School and soon after embarked on a lifelong career as a dirt contractor, moving to Kimball County shortly after his graduation. In the summers he would run heavy equipment, moving dirt and in the winter months he would sell cars. In 1966, he returned to Callaway, continuing his impactful work in the community. His dedication to his profession and his family was evident in every project he undertook.
On December 31, 1959, Karl met the love of his life, Mary Jane Rayback, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together that led to their marriage on May 22, 1960, in Dix, Nebraska. To this union one child Betsy was born.
As a young man, Karl's interests extended beyond his professional life; he had a profound appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His passion for conservation was evident in his proactive efforts to plant numerous trees both by hand and with a tree spade. He was a man who found fulfillment through his numerous projects, continually busy and involved.
Among his proudest accomplishments was the construction of the family home, built 52 years ago, where he personally leveled the hill, constructed the road, and meticulously landscaped the surroundings with trees and shrubs.
Karl was a member of the Callaway Lutheran Church and served over 50 years with the Callaway Volunteer Fire Department.
Karl is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Reinhard; daughter, Betsy Spanel, and her husband Craig, all of Callaway; grandchildren, Kaitlin Mayo of Norfolk, Victoria (Zach) Rosenboom of Howells, and Stephen Spanel of Omaha; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Psota of Omaha; and a multitude of nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: brothers Don, Keith, Gary, Loyal, and sister Virginia.
Karl Lee Reinhard will be remembered as a hardworking individual who loved his family deeply and cared for the environment. His spirit and contributions will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who knew him.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation to follow at the Callaway Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials are suggested to Callaway Volunteer Fire Department.
