Howard Calvin Ditson, 90, of Broken Bow passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Jennie M Melham Memorial Medical Center with family by his side.
Howard was born in Broken Bow, NE on October 1, 1934, to Lester and Ava (Speer) Ditson. He attended school in Broken Bow, dropping out in the 10th grade. He would later get his GED.
On April 16, 1956, he married Martha Bohy in Winner, SD. The couple lived in Niles, Michigan for a while before returning to Broken Bow to make their home. To this union, five children were born, Scott, Sharron, Karen, Kurt, and Annette.
Howard worked several jobs over the years. He had his own auction business Mid-State Realty & Auction. He loved buying a whole house full of items and reselling them at his auctions. While he enjoyed working for himself, the one job he will be remembered most for is school bus driver for the Broken Bow school system. He drove a bus for about 26 years and continued on with the school for a couple more years after he stopped driving. Even years after leaving the school, people would come up to him and tell him they remembered him from riding on his bus.
Those left to cherish his memories include his children, Scott Ditson of Lincoln NE, Sharron Ditson of Lincoln, NE, Karen Neben of Lincoln, NE, Kurt Ditson of Lincoln, NE and Annette (Daryl) Glos of Grand Island, Four grandchildren- Nick Neben, AJ Neben, Zachery Ditson and Addison Glos; brother Wayne Ditson of Niles, Michigan, several nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ditson; his parents Lester and Ava Ditson; and his brothers Dale Ditson and Jesse Ditson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Broken Bow United Methodist Church with Pastor Phil Sloat officiating. The funeral service will be livestreamed at www.govierbrothers.com. The burial will follow in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the United Methodist Church following the burial. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. A visitation will be held Friday, May 2nd, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, without family, at Govier Brothers, and on Saturday morning, from 9:00 am until service time at the church, with the family serving donuts and coffee.
