Virginia Wright

August 13, 1933 — February 28, 2022

Virginia Wright passed away February 28, 2022, at the Pioneer Memorial Rest Home in Mullen, Nebraska, on the day of her and Bill’s 69th wedding anniversary. They are together again.

Virginia was born in Stewardson, Illinois, to Phebe (Vaught) Stephens and Lowell Stephens on August 13, 1933. She had two older brothers and one younger sister.

The family moved to Florida so Virginia’s dad could finish law school. They then moved to Powell, Wyoming, where Virginia went to school K-12. She also went on to the two-year college in Powell.

Bill Wright (her future husband) went to work on construction in Powell. Bill met Virginia and it must have been love at first sight because they were married six months later on February 28, 1953.

Bill and Virginia moved back to the ranch north of Whitman to help his mother run the ranch.

In 1954 a son John was born, then in 1957 a daughter Cindy was born.

In 1968 Virginia and family moved to Chadron, Nebraska, to finish her school for a Bachelor of Science in education. In 1969 Virginia and family moved to McCook, Nebraska, for a teaching position. In 1970 Virginia and family moved to Mullen, Nebraska, where she taught third grade before retiring in 1996. Virginia loved teaching and the hundreds of children that passed through her classrooms.

Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, a brother Robert Stephens and sister Ellen Shook.

Virginia is survived by one brother Lowell Stephens Jr., a son John S. Wright, a daughter Cindy (Terry) Pearman, granddaughter Brenda Nippard, great-granddaughters Erin and Kierston Nippard, Hailey Konruff (Elmer Bryan) and a great-great-grandson Alexander Bryan.

Memorial service will be Friday, March 4, 2022, at 1:00 pm MT at the United Methodist Church in Mullen with Pastor John Parsons officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Whitman Cemetery, the Whitman Community Club or donor’s choice.  Govier Brothers Mortuary of Mullen are in charge of arrangements.
