Edna Lucille Whaley

November 29, 1917 – June 4, 2025

Edna Lucille Whaley, age 107, of Broken Bow, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. In her own words, Edna wrote:

 “Born Nov. 29, 1917, to Franklin Homer & Theresa (Tracy) Augusta Keim on a farm near Bruning, Nebr., in Thayer County. I was the second oldest of 8 children—4 boys & 4 girls. At age 4 my parents moved to Franklin County where we lived on farms near Franklin and Bloomington, Nebraska.

 In 1936 our family moved to Chadron, Nebr., where we lived on a farm. During this time, I worked some time for the Midwest Furniture Co.

 My parents responded to the Gospel in 1931, and I made my choice to serve the Lord in 1935.

 I was married to Joseph Earl Whaley on a farm Dec. 26, 1944. We lived on a farm near Callaway until we retired in Sept. 1975 when we moved to Broken Bow, Neb.

 Three children were born: 

 Stephen Earl born Dec. 17, 1945, 

 Susan Jo (McCue) born April 24, 1947 

 Walter Lee born March 26, 1950

 I was preceded in death by father Dec. 26, 1956 & mother April 18, 1976.”

Edna is survived by one sister, Ravay Kleeb; two sons, Stephen Earl Whaley of Denver and Walter Lee (Rebecca) Whaley of Callaway; son-in-law, Michael McCue of Dallas; four grandchildren, Nicholl McCue, Marcus McCue, Misty Whaley (Greg) Smidt, and Summer Whaley (Charles) Hull; and nine great-grandchildren, Kaden Smidt, Jaren (Molly) Smidt, Kiara Smidt, Monday McCue, Miles McCue, Macy McCue, Maddox McCue, Chaucer Hull, and Hendrix Hull.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Earl Whaley; her daughter, Susan Jo McCue; two sisters, Kathryn Keim Peak and Anna Lee Keim Coday; and four brothers, Alvin, Erwin, Franklin, and David Keim.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 12th, 5-7 PM at the Govier Brothers Mortuary. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 13th, at 11:00 AM at the Broken Bow Municipal Building. Lunch will be provided immediately following the service. Interment at the Broken Bow Cemetery following the luncheon.
