Sidney, NE – David A. Sterner age 62 of Sidney formerly of Merna, passed away on December 12, 2018, at the Sidney Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with Pastor Bill Williams officiating.  Burial will be in the Merna Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 16, 2018, 1:00 PM to 7:00, with the family greeting friends 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary.  Memorials are suggested to the Esther Sterner Memorial Scholarship Fund, Merna Fire Department or the Donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.govierbrothers.com David Allen Sterner was born on November 17, 1956, in Callaway, NE to Marvin & Esther (Murray) Sterner. He graduated from Anselmo-Merna High School in 1975. He attended Kearney State College receiving a bachelor’s degree in Science. After graduation, David taught Science for several years. David moved to Wray, Colorado to live with his uncle Louie where he sold fire protector equipment. David then worked for 20+ years as the manager of numerous landfills throughout Nebraska & Colorado. With 17 years working at the Lexington Area Landfill. He then moved back to Colorado where he managed the Archuleta County Landfills in Pagosa Springs, CO. While in Colorado, he met his soulmate, Susan. At the time of his death, David was employed by Downey Drilling doing water-well photography throughout Nebraska & Kansas. Through the years, David was active in the local fire departments and the rotary club. David was always a warm and caring person who liked to help family & friends in any way possible. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, four-wheeling in the mountains, spending time with his nephews and great nieces & nephews, and collecting “David’s treasures”.  David always had a smile on his face while wearing his signature bib overalls and colorful shirts. He was known to have candy in his pockets for the little ones. David was the life of the party and always ended conversations with “Sure glad you got a chance to see me.”  David was fun loving and lived life to the fullest. David is survived by father, Marvin Sterner of Broken Bow, 2 brothers, Ed Sterner of North Platte, Clifford (Jeri) Sterner of Merna, special friend Susan Nossaman of Sidney, her 2 daughters Lauren Felts-Salazar and daughter Sophia of Taos, New Mexico and Liz Daniels and son Ethan of San Antonio, TX , 3 nephews, Tim (Jen) Sterner of North Platte, Terry (Colleen) Sterner of Merna & Travis (Wynne) Sterner of Merna, 7 great nieces and nephews, Jacob, Dalton, Jase, Sienna, Judd, Maggie & Devin, 7 aunts & uncles, 19 cousins and numerous other family & friends. David is preceded in death by his mother, Esther, uncles Louie Murray, Steve Jorgensen & Cecil Price, Aunts Eunice Price & Virginia Peterson, and his grandparents.
