Darlene P. Price, age 91, of rural Ansley, Nebraska passed peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Born July 29, 1934, in Ott, Arkansas to Tom and Opal (Sigler) Newman, she attended Ansley Public School. She was united in marriage to James (Jim) Price, also of Ansley on Dec. 31, 1950, in the Christian Church. Darlene was allowed to accompany Jim while he was stationed in England for 18 months. They enjoyed visiting and learning about their current location, all the while making plans to return to Custer County. In addition to farming, they worked at the Grand Island Munitions Plant and Becton-Dickinson in Broken Bow. Together, they built a Cafe’, Gas Station and Motor Inn close to the Hwy 2 and 92 junctions. Darlene also worked for local clothing stores in Broken Bow. They discovered they both had a keen eye for antiques. They recognized true heirlooms and could spot a reproduction immediately. They were always learning about the processes used to create these antiques. Some items required refinishing. They hired young people to assist in this process. They shopped many auctions, as well as purchased properties, salvaging both contents and lumber or bricks. Eventually, they needed more space and purchased the historic Ansley Hotel on main street. Buyers enjoyed staying in the restored hotel rooms, furnished with antiques. Darlene loved to go to auctions and garage sales. She was especially fond of crocks and Indian artwork. Jim liked books, anything mechanical and furniture. They would often remind each other they were ‘dealers’ not collectors. They were quite the team! After Jim’s passing, Darlene ran the cafe’ awhile, worked at Custer’s Last Stop and continued attending flea markets, auctions and garage sales with her siblings. Darlene and Jim did not have any children, but sometimes hosted youth who just needed a bit of time to ‘cool off’ before returning to their parents. Nieces and nephews from Nebraska to Colorado & Wyoming were always special to this couple.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, parents, Tom & Opal; siblings, Tommie, Richard, Marie Payne, & Bonnie Roland; in-laws Sheryl Newman, Bob Payne & Ralph Roland.

Darlene is survived by brothers Larry & Alice, Lincoln and Kenneth & Nancy, Sutherland, and seventeen nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Ansley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Ansley Rescue. Online words of remembrance or condolences may be left at www.govierbrothers.com
