Charles was born on April 2, 1941, in Broken Bow to Leslie and Vera Mae (Voltzke) Horn. He attended Tuckerville School through 8th grade and then graduated from Callaway Public School in 1960.
Charles married Patsy Empfield on November 27, 1960. Charles stayed on the Horn ranch until 2016 after Patsy’s passing. Three children were born to Charles and Patsy; Lori Lee (Horn) Jorgenson, Lane Leslie Horn, and Lana Lynette Horn. Each daughter has two children giving him four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Charles loved the ranch, farm life, his family, grandchildren, and many friends. Charles was a member of the ELKS, township board, Oconto UMC then Faith UMC, One Box Shooting Club, and a volunteer on the Oconto Fire Department.
Charles was happy to be in the background helping wherever he could. A lot of families have benefited from his welding creations. By the time he passed, enough people had complimented him on his work that he accepted he was an artist.
The Sculpture Garden in Oconto will long stand as a memorial to Charles. It is fun for his family to see people stopping by to enjoy his creations.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Lori (Horn) Jorgenson and Kent Jorgenson of Elkhorn, NE and Lana Horn of Kearney, NE; four grandchildren, Joel and Kristen Jorgenson of Arvada, CO; Kamille (Jorgenson) and Nick Lee of Westminster, CO; Logan Roepke and Ashley of McCook, NE; and Lorissa Roepke and Scott of Omaha, NE; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patsy, son Lane, chihuahua Jack, his parents Les and Vera Mae Horn, and brother James Horn.
