Carol Ann (Tierney) Hiser, born September 18, 1951, in Broken Bow to C.A. and Evelyn Tierney, passed away at her home in Grand Island.
She received her education at Broken Bow High School and graduated in 1969, then attended Chadron State College.
Carol married and had two children, Christy and Shad. She pursued and received a college degree in Business in 1991 as the first graduating class of the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She worked for the State of Nebraska for 23 years until her retirement in 2020. Upon her retirement she was awarded the Nebraska Admiral, the highest civic honor in the state of Nebraska.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and strove to be generous with many organizations sharing her talents and resources. She was proud of her Irish heritage and loved to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. She was also proud of her ranching background and enjoyed helping with the cattle. Carol enjoyed baking and cake decorating for every family event from weddings to birthdays and enjoyed making beautiful baby blankets and afghans.
Carol treasured family and friends, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and most recently a great grandchild. From spreading holiday cheer to celebrating sporting events and other accomplishments and big moments in life, she loved being present and spending time with loved ones.
Carol is survived by a daughter Christy (Trent) of Omaha, a son Shad (Jessalyn) of Blair, grandchildren Kacie (Steven) and their daughter, Violet, Travis (Beth), Caleb (Olivia) and their expected twin boys, Shay, Rory and Evalyn, brother Larry, sister Conni (Rick), nieces, nephews and many friends.
Carol was preceded in death by parents, C.A. and Evelyn Tierney and her partner of 30 years, Richard Harder.
Memorials Services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow, NE. Burial will follow in the St. Joesph’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Family for future designation. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9th from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary. Govier Brothers Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
