Broken Bow, NE- Dale S. May age 86 of Broken Bow died Monday November 9, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be held Friday November 13, 2009 at 2:00 PM in Govier Bros. Mortuary in Broken Bow with Reverend Glen Emert officiating. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery with Govier Bros. Mortuary of Broken Bow in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held Thursday 8 Am to 8 Pm with the family greeting friends 5 Pm to 7 Pm at Govier Bros. Mortuary. Memorials have been established to the Lions Club, United Methodist Church stained glass window fund, Pressey Park Maintenance fund or the donor’s choice. Dale S. May was born May 19, 1923 to David C. and Irena Mae (Neth) May at the family farm northwest of Callaway, NE. he attended Crossroads School through the 8th grade graduating from Callaway High School. He was united in marriage to Nellie E. Graf at Smith Center, KS on May 27, 1946. They resided in Broken Bow their entire married life. Dale was a mechanic for Stanford Motor and Ruff Motor before purchasing the Phillips 66 station in 1963, retiring in 1983. The next 26 years have been spent enjoying each other, the children, grandchildren and especially the great grandchildren. He was a member of the United Methodist Church for over 50 years, joining the Evangelical United Brethren Church as a teenager. Always being a very willing worker he delivered church bulletins and video tapes to the nursing homes each Monday morning for the past eight years. After joining the Broken Bow Lions Club in 1985 he served as an officer in the organization. Activities included calling Bingo for the residents at the Golden Living Center, selling pancake feed tickets and flipping pancakes at the feeds. They enjoyed fishing and camping with friends and relatives. Pressey Park was a favorite setting. Many hours were spent playing cards, walking and visiting. Wood working, crafts, and building bird feeders to be given away provided great satisfaction and enjoyment for him and to the recipients. Watching the birds and squirrels each morning delighted and sweetened their breakfast. Dale is survived by his wife Nellie of Broken Bow, son Roger (Verla) May of Broken Bow and a daughter Linda (Floyd Gene) Houser of North Platte. He survived by 4 grandchildren: Jason May of Santa Maria, CA, Janelle (Dan) Dameron of North Platte, Scott (Crystal) May of Goddard, KS, and Eric (Debra) Houser of Kearney, NE. The 8 great grandchildren that were especially dear to his heart. He is also survived by one brother Rex (Marvella) May of Merna, brother in law Marvin (Jeannie) Graf and several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Maxine Downin, brother in law Ralph Downin, brother Gerald May, and a sister in law Connie May.
